Scotland has some of the most beautiful driving scenery on the planet. It’s no surprise that the first leak for the new BMW 8 Series convertible came during a photoshoot on the shores of Loch Assynt. A perfect setting for the stunning 2019 BMW convertible.

Muscular Design

The BMW M850i coupe was featured in a dark gray, highlighting its sleek and muscular look under the sunshine and before the waves. The headlights and grille are cleverly aligned to evoke the narrowed, focused eyes of a predator in mid-hunt. Ready to pounce, it communicates the 8 Series’ immediate acceleration and aggressive handling well. This serves to further accentuate the coiled strength throughout the design.

The new BMW 8 Series convertible will keep a fabric soft-top roof, a superb choice for easily and quickly folding back the roof to enjoy the sun. It also saves on weight. There is extra strengthening – especially along the flank – to maintain strength in the frame.

Precision in Presentation

The interior is luxurious while also being clean and precise. It delivers an efficient console with a layered control scheme that’s simple to navigate. Every tool you need is there; the technology is stunning.

At the same time, there’s a lot to be said about BMW’s focus on ease of use. Instead of overloading the driver with a jungle of knobs and buttons, clean presentation allows much more natural control. There’s no getting lost figuring out how to call up an app or use the GPS. Luxury should mean luxury, and common sense should inform how a control scheme is laid out and used.

Power to Spare

The entry-level BMW convertible in the 8 Series will be the 840d. We know this will run with 320 horsepower, very appealing for the series’ starting model. The M850i whose glamour photos leaked will arrive with a 4.4-liter, twin-turbo V8 at 523 horsepower. That’ll get you to 60 mph from a standstill in just 3.6 seconds. Indications are there may even be a V12 model with a 6.0-liter engine delivering more than 600 horsepower.

The BMW 8 Series isn’t joking around. Come see for yourself.
