The 2021 BMW i4 already has people clearing a spot in their garage and signing up for waiting lists, especially with a brand new set of details recently released by the company. Part of the brand’s commitment to launch a number of new electric vehicles, the electric BMW i4 sedan will have a competitor in the Tesla Model 3, but the BMW may very well come out on top thanks to some real advantages.
2021 Electric BMW i4 Sedan – Power
One of the biggest advantages this model will have is the battery itself. Under the hood will be an 80-kilowatt-hour battery, which has the power to produce 530 horsepower. Moving this car from 0 to 62 mph will take just four seconds, and it should have a top speed of 120 mph. It relies on Generation 5 battery packs, a new release that’s quite different from the other options the company has manufactured in the past. They’re smaller, stronger, and can reach an 80% charge in about 35 minutes.
BMW Electric Sedan – Range
Much has been written about the need to take electric cars further on a single charge, and BMW has filled the order with this one. On U.S. roads, it is expected to get a range of about 340 – 350 miles on a single charge. On the European circuit, though, the car is currently experiencing a range of 373 miles.
i4 Sedan Electric – All-Wheel Drive
The specs released by the company imply a two-motor layout, as well as two batteries, so many believe this car will hold true to the others in the M series and be released as an all-wheel drive vehicle. That’s a good move on the part of BMW, as they’ll want to add a few options down the road to compete with other electric car manufacturers.
Other specs for this car have yet to be released, but they may hit later this year as production is expected to begin in 2021.
