There are many different reasons to invest in a BMW. They’re the standard when it comes to safety and quality; the brand continues to redefine performance. Many, though, choose to buy a BMW for speed, and for good reason. This brand produces some of the fastest cars available today, and if speed is high on your shopping list, you simply can’t go wrong with a BMW. What’s the fastest BMW available today? Take a look at a few options.

The Best of the Best: The M5

If you’re truly looking for the fastest BMW available today, you won’t find anything faster than the 30th Anniversary Jahre Edition M5. With 600 hp, it has a 4.4 liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that offers it more speed than you can imagine. In fact, you’ll find you can reach 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds. It offers a limited top speed of 199 mph, and unrestricted, it would likely break 200mph without an issue.  Peak torque is 750N, and drivers will see it as low as 1,800 rpm and sustain it to 5,860 rpm. The maximum output on this amazing vehicle is 460kW, which it hits when the vehicle reaches 6,000 RPM.

Its looks don’t hurt either. Instead of the huge kidney style grille, it offers a modern style that pushes the kidney grille a bit further into the front apron of the vehicle. Framed with a single piece of high-gloss black material, the grille looks fantastic. Added cooling performance complements the speed of this car, as the front apron includes larger air intakes along the sides.

Everything about this vehicle screams fast. BMW went as far as to change the headlight design, including new L-shaped light tubes and Individual Shadow Line lights. Even the twin tailpipes offer a high-tech look that feeds into the idea of speed. The rear apron furthers that look with a restyled diffuser that is much larger and three-dimensional rear LED lighting that pushes the BMW L shape a little further.

Other Fast BMW Models

The M5 is certainly the ideal, but there are other fast BMW options on the market. The X5 M and X6 M both offer speed thanks to a 4.4 liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine. Both have the ability to hit 60 mph in just 4.0 seconds. While you wouldn’t expect a big SUV to offer real power, BMW has managed to do just that. Limited top speed on these two is 155 mph, but without the limiter, it’s likely to be quite a bit faster.

2021 Blue BMW X6

The i8 offers something just a bit faster – you can reach 60 mph in 3.9 seconds in this vehicle. It offers a 1.5 three cylinder engine as well as two electric motors. The lightweight frame, though, helps push this vehicle to a top limited speed of 155 mph.

Any discussion of fast BMW models must include the M6 Gran Coupe. With the competition package enabled, it moves the horsepower from 560 to 600, which means additional great power that can push it to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds. The electronically limited speed, though, remains the same at 155 mph.

The M4 GTS is another great fast option. With a 3.0 liter twin-turbocharged I6 engine offers this vehicle 493 hp, which can produce a speed of 0 – 60 in 3.4 seconds. To achieve that speed, though, it must be paired with the DCT gearbox. STarting at $64,200, it’s speed for a great price.

The M3 is no slouch, though. The M3 GTS offers a top speed of 190 mph while the CRT offers a top speed of 180 mph.

The M760Li is a series 7, but it certainly deserves to be on the list, despite its weight. It has a 6.6 liter twin-turbocharged engine that offers 600 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. It can reach 60 mph in 3.6 seconds.

Fast defines this brand, but if you’re looking for the fastest BMW available today, one of these likely is your best best.
